By now, we’re sure you’ve heard about ductless HVAC systems, especially if you’re looking at improving the comfort of your home. Ductless mini-split systems are becoming more popular all over the country. More and more people are turning to ductless systems to solve their indoor comfort needs, but there are still quite a few myths surrounding this technology. While the original units of the ’70s may live up to the myths that still linger, the technology of today has far surpassed the days of old. We want to help dispel these myths and give ductless systems the credit they deserve.
Myth #1 – Lack of power
While some people believe that the ductless mini-split system is not powerful enough to cool the entire house, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The ductless system comes in different sizes and styles that are designed for your specific needs. Therefore, they work more efficiently to cool and heat an entire home. Additionally, they can be divided into multiple zones to keep your home at the desired temperature offering maximum comfort and control.
Myth #2 – More maintenance calls
Consumers love ductless systems just as much as the technicians do. Once installed and turned on, the sensors take care of keeping the air temperature comfortable, and other than annual preventative maintenance calls, they require little to no service. Additionally, these systems come with a 10-year warranty.
Myth #3 – Unattractive design
Ductless systems are available in a wide variety of configurations. While most believe that the only design available is the unit that hangs from the wall, other models are available. For example, there is a floor mount, a vertical air handler, or a ceiling-mounted system. There are different designs available that certainly complement any room décor.
Myth #4 – Noisy
When people think of ductless systems, they usually envision the older systems of the ’70s. These systems were loud and intrusive. With today’s technology, they are much quieter than the original units and are far less noisy than window units. They are so quiet, one can barely hear them at all.
Myth #5 – Less cost-efficient
Contrary to this myth, one of the many advantages of ductless systems is that it saves energy and money, according to Energy.gov. These systems are incredibly economical and could potentially save you up to 1/3 of your electric bill. The ductless system has a higher SEER rating than many conventional systems. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and measures the air conditioning cooling efficiency.
Myth #6 – Best for new construction
Ductless systems work great for both new construction and existing structures. The same efficient technology that makes ductless systems perfect for new construction also makes them an excellent choice for retrofit installation.
Choosing the right heating and cooling system for your home is a significant decision and should not be taken lightly. Be sure to do your research, consult a professional, and don’t let any myths deter you from choosing the best system for your home.
